We start from temple town of Yanaka, one of the few surviving districts of disasters of The Great Kanto Earthquake,1923 and WWII bombing, walking through small paths and alleys, you will hear a lot about the, interesting but not often spoken, commoners way of living in small wooden, but neatly planned houses.
We may stop at some street food shops to taste a local daily dish, or some sweets.
Then by taking a mini-bus, we move to the district of Ueno. Ueno Metropolitan Park, site of an ancient family temple of Tokugawa shogunate, now changed to a cultural and artistic center, still preserves some traditional temples and shrines.
After having enjoyed the flavor of Edo, we will move to the Ameya-yokocho, an ex-postwar black market, where we browse small street with so many different types of stores and feel the sense of postwar period of Tokyo.
A good combination of tradition and reform which characterizes the charm of this city.
